A Child of Sorrow
"A Child of Sorrow"
by Zoilo Galang (Analysis)
SUMMARY
It was summer in April in the Fertile Valley when Lucio and Camilo had prepared for their vacation to Merry town wherein Camilo’s hacienda located. While on their
way, they noticed the highway was rugged and zigzag, the product of unfulfilled
promises of the corrupt governor of the Merry Town, Don Pancho Ismael.
Camilo brought Lucio in one of his friend’s Birthday
party, who is Rosa. That was the first time Lucio and Rosa met and Lucio were amazed by the beauty and
innocent of Rosa.
After Lucio's meeting with Rosa and admitting
his feelings for her they've become partners. Lucio spent so much of his time with
Rosa.
After Lucio's meeting with Rosa and admitting his feelings for her they've become partners. The two enjoyed so much of their time and there is a rumor that the two are engaged. After the summer vacation they were separated since Lucio have to find work in Fertile Valley and to pursue college.

Lucio was elected President of the
“Rising Generation” and continued in his field. One day, Lucio received an invitation from Rosa
to attend their Garden Day and there
Lucio were chosen to present an
oration that impressed the people.
Oscar who has been the governor’s
friend wanted
to have Rosa as a price of being a part of the success of Ismael. Months passed
by, people heard the news that Rosa will be marry to Oscar Ramirez. Lucio was broken that time. He
was very saddened by the thought of not having her to spend the rest of his
lifetime anymore.
But Lucio continued his life and devoted
his time in his works. Lucio told himself if he failed in
love, he'll be successful in something else. That was his determination.
While Lucio was trying his best to move on.
Rosa is doing the total opposite. She can't forget Lucio. But then Lucio found out that Rosa got sick and extremely ill. Lucio rushed to Rosa and found out
that she still loves Lucio and she died in the arms of Lucio. After thisteen days of Rosa’s death, Oscar died
without knowing the cause of it. Days, months, and years passed by and from
that time on wherever Lucio was seen by men, women and
children they pointed him as “The Child of Sorrow”.
MY OPINION
The story of the novel rotates around love as its theme.
Love is such a very powerful feeling that could not be prevented by anything
else.
For
me, it is very realistic for it still happens in the present. From fixed
marriage and being in love at a very young age.
It
is such a wonderful love story though the title suggests its tragic ending
which can also be compared in teleseryes in modern times.
CHARACTER ANALYSIS (LUCIO)
I have chosen Lucio Soliman to analyze his character in the novel. He
was the main character of the story in which it talks about his undying love to
Rosa.
He
was a faithful man and hardworking. A very optimistic kind of person. He
experienced a lot of sorrows in life and still able to stand and go with the
flow of life. He never gave up and kept on proving to everybody that he is not
just an ordinary boy. But an extraordinary boy.
In
the story, he was been betrayed by his newly found friend Oscar, since he was
the one whom Rosa married to. But then, instead of making things complicated,
he fight for his love in his own way. By not hurting others, unlike Oscar and
Governor Ismael. Despite of the sad happenings he continue his life and kept on
developing his knowledge and skills.
QUOTATIONS
“ Those who promises s much are
the very ones who little value what they promise “
“ Sad are they who love so
faithfully and then only find out that their faithfulness is just what
makes them sad and unhappy”
